A sermon by Rabbi Dianne Cohler-Esses on Emor.
How do we deal with our own perfectionism and how do we move from that perfectionism, which gets in the way of living life fully, to a place of compassion? In Emor, the Biblical portion of the week, God demands perfection, prohibiting a blemished priest from approaching the divine altar. How do we wrestle with a God who on one hand can be cruelly perfectionist and on the other holds close those who are broken? How do we ourselves move to bowling with a God who is compassionate?
