This week’s parsha, reminds us that we are commanded to make and observe sacred time. Parshat Emor specifically references the need to make time to observe the Shalosh Regalim – the three Pilgrimage festivals of Passover, Shavuot, and Sukkot. And these festivals can, indeed, fill us with joy and refresh our souls.
Gone are the days where TV stations signed off at 1 am or mail comes but once each day and when the entire neighborhood observed Jewish time together. In our 24/7 “constant on” world, we need to intentionally take “pauses” and make opportunities to reflect and recharge. And perhaps more than ever, we need them.
May we take the time each Shabbat and perhaps gift ourselves with a moment of pause each day. May we use this time to pause, breathe, reflect upon the many gifts in our lives, and express our gratitude. May these moments renew us so that we can then go back into the world ready to make it a better place than it was the day before, for we do, we will continue to be strengthened even as we strengthen others.
