The new British TV series ‘We Are Lady Parts,’ now streaming on Peacock, follows the members of an all-female, all-Muslim punk rock group as they try to make it big while staying true to who they are. The show raises important questions around issues of representation, diversity, authenticity, and the intersection of religion and secular life, all while navigating the challenges of misogyny and Islamophobia. Rabbis Knopf and Olitzky welcome special guest Suja A. Amir, a leader in the south Asian and Muslim communities of Richmond, VA, to discuss the show, and how our respective traditions teach us that we are each greater than the sum of our ‘Parts.’
