The Joseph story is the longest in the book of Genesis. It truly is the classic tale of resentment, favoritism, divine intervention and the rise and fall….and rise and fall…and rise and fall of a hero. We first meet Joseph as a pampered favorite child who quickly earns the resentment of his brothers. They plot to do away with him and, in the process of doing so, set in motion a chain of events that determine not only the destiny of their obnoxious brother, but of an entire people.
Joseph, the favorite son
Through his dreams has annoyed everyone
His brothers they pitch
Him into a ditch
And that’s how our story’s begun
