My kids call it a mess. My husband calls it clutter. I call it unlimited potential. What are we all talking about? We’re referring to the boxes, bags, bins, and files of educational materials and resources that I’ve amassed over decades of involvement in both secular and Jewish education. The original impetus for writing my Jewish Educators’ Village blog was to re-cycle, re-mix, revive, and re-purpose all this…stuff in a useful way, worthy of sharing with all who play a role in Jewish education, formally or informally, as a professional or volunteer, at various age levels. A tall order, but I have alot of stuff! Along the way, though, I’ve found many other subjects to post about and loads of reasons to postpone sorting through, organizing, and selecting items from those boxes, bags, bins, and files. Well, now I’m taking advantage of a New Year (ok, a New Year for the Trees – ie. Tu B’Shvat) to make a resolution. In honor of all my tree-based paper products (notebooks, hand-outs, information and activity sheets, lesson plans, maps, posters, books, etc.) currently stored away, I hereby resolve to critically examine these materials, to post ideas based on the best of them, and (gasp!) even to discard some that are no longer relevant, accurate, or meaningful in today’s Jewish educational environment. You are all witnesses! Keep “noodging” me to make this resolution a reality before next Tu B’Shvat.
