Welcome to the Daily Daf Differently. In this episode, Rabbi Jeremy Kalmanofsky looks at Masechet Yoma Daf 79.
On Yom Kippur you are forbidden from eating food the size of a date’s bulk. The sages set this standard – not because food becomes a technically prohibited substance, like pork – but to induce in us a feeling of mental discomposure, as a spur to penitence.
The opening and closing music for this podcast is Ufros from The Epichorus album One Bead.
