Welcome to the Sixty Fourth episode of Daily Daf Differently. In this episode, Rabbi Shai Cherry looks at Masechet Shabbat Daf 65. In this episode, the Talmud discusses those things that one may go out with on Shabbat without fear that they’ll be carried in such a way that would violate Shabbat. Along the way, we see how later generations become stricter in their interpretation of the law. We also see how legal fictions develop around rabbinic law in order to safeguard biblical law.
Rabbi Shai Cherry, Ph.D, is the founder and director of Shaar Hamayim: A Jewish Learning Center in Solana Beach, California. Shai wrote Torah through Time: Understanding Bible Commentary from the Rabbinic Period to Modern Times and is the featured lecturer for The Great Courses’ “Introduction to Judaism.”
The opening and closing music for this podcast is Ufros from The Epichorus album One Bead.
