Welcome to the Hundred and Nineteenth episode of Daily Daf Differently. In this episode, Rabbi Justin David looks at Masechet Shabbat Daf 120. Why are we only permitted to indirectly put out a fire on Shabbat, whereas we are permitted to extinguish a candle if it bothers a sick person on Shabbat? Perhaps the answer has less to do with Shabbat and more to do with the symbolic role of our actions in the face of what we cannot control.
Justin David is Rabbi of Congregation B’nai Israel in Northampton, MA, where boardmeetings have been canceled when Dylan plays in town. For the past three years, hehas served as Rabbi-in-Residence of Camp Yofi, a program for families with childrenon the autism spectrum at Ramah Darom.
The opening and closing music for this podcast is Ufros from The Epichorus album One Bead.
