When a parent dies, the mourning practices are more stringent than when another person dies. This daf lists such differences. Specifically we will examine the issue of attending a celebratory feast–how long must one refrain from entering such a celebration and what types of celebrations must be avoided?

Dr. Joshua Kulp teaches rabbinic literature at the Conservative Yeshiva. He is the co-author of The Schechter Haggadah: Art, History and Commentary (published by The Schechter Institute) and most recently, Reconstructing the Talmud: An Introduction to the Academic Study ofRabbinic Literature (published by Mechon Hadar). He is also the author of the Mishnah Yomit and Daf Shevui programs, both sponsored by the Conservative Yeshiva. During the summer he is the scholar-in-residence at Camp Ramah in New England.
