Today we look at a fascinating aggadah concerning a rabbi who seems to have engaged in some misconduct, perhaps even sexual misconduct. Does his leadership role in the rabbinic community gain him a pass for his misbehavior? Or does his misbehavior mean that the Torah that he teaches is not true Torah?

Dr. Joshua Kulp teaches rabbinic literature at the Conservative Yeshiva. He is the co-author of The Schechter Haggadah: Art, History and Commentary (published by The Schechter Institute) and most recently, Reconstructing the Talmud: An Introduction to the Academic Study ofRabbinic Literature (published by Mechon Hadar). He is also the author of the Mishnah Yomit and Daf Shevui programs, both sponsored by the Conservative Yeshiva. During the summer he is the scholar-in-residence at Camp Ramah in New England.
