I have one word for ‘The Accountant’…Awesome…I have one word to describe Ben Affleck’s performance….Freakin Fantastic. Okay that’s two words, but this is one of his best performances in years.
‘The Accountant’ directed by Gavin O’Connor is an edge of your seat thriller that will keep you guessing right up to the end. I won’t say too much about the plot because I don’t want to give anything away.
Affleck plays (Christian Wolf, who is a math savant with an over the top affinity for numbers. Behind the cover of a small town CPA office, Wolf works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most criminal organizations. Needless to say he assumes many different identities and so for years it has worked perfectly until…
The Treasury Department Enforcement Division run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons) starts to close in. It’s then that Wolfe takes on a legitimate client, a state of the art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. The company is run by John Lithgow and his sister, Jean Smart. As Christian gets close to uncovering the truth, bodies start piling up.
There’s much more to the story, with great twists you won’t see coming, but I will say Christian just happens to be a crack shot. What’s wondering about Affleck’s performance is has a profound understanding how each little mannerism shapes who he is. Christin is someone who’s incredibly smart, but the character is also physically imposing and strong. It’s also great to watch him with Anna Kendrick) You could see that he has no idea how to interact with a woman and that makes him even more engaging.
I gave “The Accountant’ which opened Friday, October 14th 5 bagels out of 5. You can also here more of my thought on the film on my youtube channel This is one film you don’t want to miss.
