‘Insidious Chapter 3′ is the third film in the terrifying horror franchise, created by Leigh Whannell and James Wan. This film which Leigh wrote and directed by himself, takes place several years before the haunting of the Lambert family and Elise’s (LinShaye) battle with the spirits from The Further, which we met in the first two movies.
In this prequel, teenager Quinn Brenner (Stefanie Scott) senses that her late mother is trying to contact her. She seeks out the gifted psychic, Elsie to help her reach her mom.. Even though Elsie feels for the girl, she’s reluctant to use her abilities to contact the dead. Her last visit to the Further almost cost Elsie her life. She sends Quinn on her way.
Soon a shocking accident leaves Quinn recuperating at home with her widowed father Sean (Dermot Mulroney) who’s trying to help her recuperate. It is no easy task considering the fact that an evil supernatural entity is after the girl and has already attacked her several times.
Not knowing how to deal with this (who does?) Sean goes to Elsie’s house and begs her to help Quinn and despite her better judgement, she agrees. Of course, things don’t go exactly her way. To give anymore of the plot away would be a spoiler, but what I will say is, even if you haven’t seen the first two movies in the franchise, don’t let that stop from seeing this one. The film definitely stands on its own. And fans, you will not be disappointed. I promise you will several good scares I know I did.
Rounding out the cast are out favorite ghostbusters, Tucker (Angus Sampson) and Specs (Leigh Whannell).’Insidious: Chapter 3’ opens in theatres Friday June 5 and because it scared me silly, I gave it 5 bagels out of 5.
