Jewish Education Summer To-Do List

Throughout the religious school year, as a Jewish educator, I’m propelled by curricular objectives, Holiday preparations, and synagogue-wide events in which my students participate. Then, one day in May, with a final “Shalom,” my students are off on their summer vacations. My classroom is off-limits for summer cleaning. Although I have numerous family responsibilities, I’m […]

Still Believe In the Tooth Fairy

In this episode of Meet Me At the Tzomet (the Intersection) Rabbi Arnie Samlan, of Jewish Connectivity looks at the beliefs that we all hold, even when we know that they don’t REALLY make sense. What are your core beliefs? Rambam had his core thirteen beliefs, what are yours? You don’t need to have thirteen, but what are […]

Shlach: Believing In The Impossible

What do the footballer Steven Gerrard and the spy Caleb have in common? In this week’s Torah portion as we read of the spies scouting out the land, we see the size of the task which lay ahead, and we read about Caleb setting an example for us all, when facing seemingly insurmountable challenges. Episode Forty Two: Service Of The Heart

The Talmud teaches that prayer is the “service of the heart.” Yet for many Jews, that description could not be further from our experience with Jewish prayer. Join Rabbi Knopf as he teaches the Netivot Shalom on the profound challenges and extraordinary possibilities of prayer. http://media.blubrry.com/jcasttotalfeed/www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/jcastnetwork.com/storage/Tisch/042.mp3Podcast: Download

Two Jews On That’s My Boy

First the good news: ‘That’s My Boy’ directed by Sean Anders, has one of the funniest opening scenes of any Adam Sandler film I’ve seen in a really long time. The year is 1984…13 year old Donnie Berger, (an excellent Justin Weaver) rises to fame after a hot affair with his gorgeous, super sexy math […]

The Jewish Futures Conference

This week, Aaron Herman had the opportunity to attend the Jewish Futures Conference
As technology evolves so does the way we learn and connect. We had the opportunity to attend the Jewish Futures Conference and spoke with leaders in the community about how they are utilizing technology to enhance the way they teach and engage their constituents. The Jewish Futures Conference brought together visionary thinkers, passionate individuals, and inspiring presentations in a conference designed to shift the horizon of our thinking in Jewish education. New ways of connecting are simultaneously posing challenges to traditional institutions and offering new opportunities for forging community and undertaking Jewish learning both locally and globally. The Jewish Futures Conference provided a space to imagine, learn and engage in purposeful and courageous conversation about the future of Jewish community and education and how it can thrive in today’s and tomorrow’s world.

Moses’ Modesty and R. Simcha’s Two Pockets

This past Shabbat’s Torah section, Be’ha’alotekha, includes the famous description of Moses’ singular virtue [Numbers 12.3]: “This man Moses was very humble, more than any other human being on the face of the earth.” If anyone could justify a little vanity, maybe it would be the man whose face glowed with light because he came […]
